The Austrian parliament has passed legislation prohibiting all glyphosate-based herbicides in vineyards starting 1 January 2026, with no transition period for existing stocks. The move affects approximately 4,800 hectares of conventional vineyards, primarily in Niederösterreich and Burgenland. Major cooperatives such as Domäne Wachau and Winzer Krems have already converted 85 % of their contracted growers to regenerative practices. Industry analysts predict a 6–9 % short-term increase in production costs, offset by stronger premium pricing in export markets.
