After six years of soil mapping and historical research, the Tokaj Council has approved a new tier between the existing single-vineyard and Grand Cru levels. The “District Single Vineyard” category will recognise 48 precisely delimited sites across the region’s seven districts. The first wines bearing the new designation will appear with the 2025 vintage, released in spring 2026. Producers expect the classification to strengthen price positioning against Burgundy and Barolo while preserving the unique patchwork ownership structure of the region.
