Croatian Government Approves €42 Million Fund for Plavac Mali and Teran Genetic Preservation

Zagreb has launched a five-year programme to establish cryogenic gene banks and massal selection field collections for Croatia’s flagship red varieties. The initiative follows alarming reports of clonal erosion in old Dingač and Postup vineyards. Leading the research will be the University of Zagreb’s Faculty of Agriculture in collaboration with the Institute of Adriatic Crops. The first certified planting material is scheduled for release to growers in 2028.
