After a 12-year application process, the European Commission has officially registered Cotnari as a PDO for naturally sweet wines made from Grasă de Cotnari, Fetească Albă, Francusa and Tămâioasă Românească. The delimitation covers 1,420 hectares and imposes strict minimum residual sugar levels and mandatory late-harvest or noble-rot declaration. The decision is expected to double average bottle prices within three years and attract new investment to the long-neglected north-eastern region.
